Every new pet owner wants a good start with their new puppy. It’s important that you establish a great relationship with your dog, after all he is going to be your new best friend for years to come. He will be there with unconditional love at every moment of your life through the ups and downs life brings your way. There are a lot of comfort in sitting down and talking to your dog and petting him. Telling him all your woes or what a great day it’s been. It’s the way you do the little things that will create a great bond with your dog. Here are some simple but quick ways to bond with your dog.
Sitting down after a long day and watching television while petting your dog sounds good but it’s not the best way to connect with your dog. Would you connect with your wife or girlfriend that way? If you do then she may feel like a dog. Your dog needs to be the focus when your petting it. A dog knows when you’re paying attention to it and when you’re just ignoring it. Focus on the dog and you will connect better with your dog and both of you will enjoy the moment better.
Take a few minutes and play games with your dog. A simple game of hide and find the treat is great exercise for your dog. Your dog will love the mental challenge. Help him find the treats as you hide them all around the room or yard. Getting off the couch will be good for you as well as the dog.
Give your dog a complete rub down. Lay your dog down on it’s side and rub him from head to tail gently with circular motions using three fingers. Don’t forget to rub and scratch behind his ears. Get your dog brush out and groom your dog. They love to be pampered and brushed. If you do a good job he may even slip off to sleep while laying beside you. These moments are great ways to bond quickly with your dog. Don’t just do it once a week, spend time with your dog every day and you can grow a strong and everlasting bond with your dog.
