Keeping your husky puppy happy and healthy as he grows should be a top priority considering the time and investment you have put into it. As a breeder my interest with a puppy I sold you doesn’t end with the sale of the puppy. I ask all my current and past customers to keep in touch with us so we can find out some things that are very important to our breeding program. We always want to know about temperament and how it behaves. Our whole breeding program is based on temperament and health. We have never breed for eye color or coat color.
The one thing I would highly recommend above all else is to start your husky on Ivomec no sooner than 6 months of age. It is your heartworm prevention, flea and tick killer, and wormer all in one. Ivomec 1% prevents internal and external parasites. All our dogs are on it and they are in top health. We have used it for years.
You give it orally to your dog at the rate of 1 tenth of a ml per 10 pounds of dog. For example a 40 pound dog would get 4 tenths of a ml. I put it on loaf bread and they gobble it up once a month. This will save you a lot of money as a 50 ml bottle is around 40 dollars and it will last a dog 3 years. You can buy it at any farm supply store and even your vet. Just add up all the pills you will buy from your vet to prevent all these things and you will easily spend that amount each month. The only thing it won’t take care of are tape worms. They are not that common but if your dogs gets them you can just buy an over the counter wormer or visit your vet. Dogs pick up all kinds of parasites while out and about and if you don’t keep them wormed they are going to get worms.
Do not give Ivomec to other dog breeds without consulting a vet and don’t give it to your cat. Some Shepard breeds can not take Ivomec. You could end up killing your beloved pet. I only recommend it for your husky as that is the only breed we have experience and a track record for using this product. Do not give this to a husky that is a year old and has not been on a heartworm prevention. You will have to have the dog tested for heartworms before you start an adult dog on Ivomec.
