Five weeks is one of my favorite milestones to watch here at Bama Huskies.
When people come to visit, they often notice how cute the puppies are. What they don’t always see is how much changes behind the scenes during this stage of development.
This week our puppies received their Neopar vaccination, an important early step in helping protect them while their immune systems continue to develop. As always, everyone handled it like little champions and is doing great.
We’re happy to report that the entire litter is healthy, growing well, and mom is doing an excellent job caring for her babies.

One question I get asked a lot is why we give NeoPar as our puppies’ first vaccination.
The reason is simple. During these first few weeks, puppies are still carrying antibodies they received from their mother. Those maternal antibodies are important because they help protect puppies while their own immune systems are still developing.
NeoPar is specifically designed to be used during this early stage when those maternal antibodies are still present. That’s why it’s the first vaccine we choose for our puppies before they move on to their regular vaccination schedule.
Our goal is to give each puppy the best possible start by protecting them during this critical window of development while working with not against the protection their mother has already provided.
As with every part of our puppy program, we follow a vaccination protocol developed with veterinary guidance because giving our puppies the healthiest start possible is always our top priority.
A Busy Time of Development
At five weeks old, these puppies are becoming little dogs instead of tiny newborns.
Their personalities are becoming more obvious every day. Some are bold explorers who are ready to investigate every corner of the puppy room. Others are a little more thoughtful and like to watch before jumping into something new.
This is also when we continue building on our Bama Huskies Beginnings™ program.
Every positive experience during these early weeks helps shape the confident companions we want our puppies to become. From daily handling and gentle socialization to introducing new sights, sounds, and experiences, each day adds another building block to their future.
A puppy isn’t just growing physically during this stage—its brain is learning how to interact with the world.
Growing Strong Every Week
The difference between birth and five weeks is incredible.
Their coordination improves daily, playtime becomes more exciting, and their curiosity seems to multiply overnight. Watching littermates chase each other, wrestle, and begin learning important social skills is one of the most rewarding parts of raising puppies.
These early interactions help teach communication, confidence, and appropriate play that they’ll carry with them into their new homes.
Healthy Moms Matter Too
While everyone loves puppy pictures, we never forget about Mom.
She continues to do an amazing job raising her babies while we closely monitor both her health and the puppies’ progress every day. A healthy, well-cared-for mother gives her puppies the best possible start in life.

After more than 30 years of breeding dogs, one thing I’ve learned is that five weeks isn’t just about watching puppies grow it’s about watching personalities emerge.
At this age, I’m paying close attention to confidence, curiosity, recovery from new experiences, how each puppy interacts with its littermates, and how quickly it adapts to something new. Those early observations often tell me far more about a puppy’s future temperament than its markings or eye color ever will.
Every puppy develops at its own pace, which is exactly why we spend so much time with them during these early weeks.
