If you read about huskies on the internet you will find a lot of false information about them. I am addressing the myth that you can never walk a husky off a leash. I don’t really know where that comes from. Many forums where husky owners come together and give advise about a husky usually makes me laugh. Just because you went out and bought a husky doesn’t make you an expert on the breed in 3 months or even a year. It is true that a husky has a desire to run and chase prey but you could say that about almost any dog. A husky can be trained to come back to you or have good behavior off the leash. If you have one and have never trained it to come back to or stay with you while walking or running then you should not take it out without a leash until you have properly trained it just like any other dog. A husky that has been contained and under exercised will be hard to let off a leash.
A husky will blow a command to come from time to time when they first start learning but that is no reason to assume they can’t be trained to behave off the leash. You have to practice and know your dog. Any situation that sets them up for failure means you may have to leash up but with consistent training your husky can do just as well as the one in this video. We train our dogs to behave off the leash but not every dog is trust worthy without a lot of training. Yes you can walk your husky off the leash with proper and consistent training. If you’re not willing to train then keep it on that leash!
