Can A Husky Live With A Cat?

We had a very nice couple come today for a kennel tour. What I really liked about them was they had been researching the husky breed and wanted more information directly from a breeder. They specifically asked about a husky living with a cat. That was important information because they already have the cat. So can a husky live with a cat? The answer is yes. If you have the cat first and raise the husky up as a puppy with the cat then there should not be a problem, unless your cat just don’t like dogs. If that is the case the cat just won’t have anything to do with the dog. If you have a full grown husky and then get a cat it may not work out. It will all depend on your dog. If it has never been around a cat it can be difficult for them to get a long. My advise would be to not get a cat if you have a grown dog that has never been around cats. That could be tricky.

A previous customer sent me some pics of the puppy they bought from us and her best friend just happens to be a cat. She was raised up with the cat. They are actually crated together for a few hours each day while the couple are at work or school. Here is the pic.

Again we do not advise anyone introducing a new cat into the home with an adult husky. It may still work out but it may not end well if you don’t know what you are doing. I know someone will email me and tell me how they know many people with huskies and cats that didn’t grow up together and it all worked out. There are always exceptions to the rule but how would you know which one you had, the exception or the rule? Given a choice I am sure that’s a chance the cat really wouldn’t want to take.
