Comfort Food For The Huskies

husky comfort foodWe get emails all the time from husky owners asking if it normal for a husky to be a picky eater and stop eating his dog food after loving it for so long. The answer is yes. Huskies are notorious for being picky and going a couple of days just looking at their food and giving that “yuck” facial expression. I know some of my recent customers would probably scratch their heads on this one because their little monster is consuming everything in sight right now. Eventually that will change and your husky will get picky at different times for no apparent reason. But there are some reasons a healthy husky will stop eating his kibble.

One reason is he gets bored with the same old stuff day in and day out just like we do. I love pizza but after a couple of days I would be sick of it if that was all I had to eat. Time to mix it up with some husky comfort foods. Before I even had breakfast myself this morning I was putting on a crock pot of pinto beans and rice with a slice of applewood smoked bacon. Man that kind of makes me hungry already. This is just one husky comfort food we make around here for all our huskies. No added spices just good wholesome food. Beans will boost their immune system, it’s good for them, and they love it. We add our comfort food to their regular balanced dog food for extra flavor and enjoyment. Also if you are on a budget you can feed this comfort food easily without breaking the bank. A pot of beans and rice would be about a dollar and it can last for several days by putting the rest in the refrigerator.

Best of all they never turn down a meal around here. There are no picky eaters here at our kennels because we always have some extra comfort food to add to their regular balanced diet. We will add more comfort food ideals soon so check back often.
