Does A Siberian Husky Make A Good Guard Dog?

Husky watchdogI get asked this question a lot. A Siberian husky is definitely a fierce looking dog. Those pointed ears that stand straight up and that wolfish look about them make them appear to be a dog you don’t want to mess with. In this case looks are deceiving. Siberian huskies don’t make good guard dogs. It’s just not in their nature to be aggressive towards people in general. They are curious dogs and love meeting and playing with anyone who is willing to play. If you have a husky and he is aggressive then he is not normal for this breed but every dog is different.

Huskies can be good watch dogs. A watch dog defined as an alert dog watching over his territory and barking or howling at anything strange going on or out of place. All our huskies are very good watch dogs. When they see a stranger or another dog they all start howling and letting me know something is up. That is as far as it goes for guarding. Once they alert me it’s all on me to take whatever action I need to do because they are pretty much done. Matter of fact I can put a mask on and they will bark and growl at me and then take off running. Not a very impressive guard dog at all. So if you are looking to get a husky for protection then you need to get a different dog. A husky won’t save you from a booger bear and you will both end up scare to death. The pic above is a previous husky puppy from our kennel. Her name is Zelda and she is watching out the window while wearing her new sweater her mommy bought her. That’s one mean looking guard dog!

We have husky puppies for sale in Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Florida.
